Why Our Sofa Bed Was the Perfect Fit for Clayton Chambers’ Amsterdam Studio

Why Our Sofa Bed Was the Perfect Fit for Clayton Chambers’ Amsterdam Studio

When Clayton Chambers, writer and founder of Sprezza, shared the news of his new Amsterdam studio, we couldn’t help but smile. His story - leaving the traditional career ladder, carving out his own lane through creativity, culture, and storytelling resonates deeply with how we built SLOWE Living.

Clayton wanted his studio to be a space where he could do it all: write, shoot, meet, think, and create. A place that wasn’t cold or sterile, but warm, lived-in, and inviting.

That philosophy is exactly why he chose a SLOWE Living sofa bed.

A Sofa That Mirrors the Way We Live and Work

Like Clayton, many of us don’t live or work in neatly defined boxes anymore. Our spaces are multi-purpose: one moment it’s a work zone, the next it’s a spot to host friends, or even a quiet place to crash.

That’s why we design every piece at SLOWE to be adaptable. Clayton’s studio needed a centrepiece that wasn’t just a sofa, and not just a bed, but something that blended seamlessly into the rhythm of his day-to-day.

Designed to Feel Warm, Not Try-Hard

Clayton put it perfectly: he wanted the studio to feel “lived-in, not cold and sterile, or like a try-hard showroom.” Our sofa beds are designed with the same intention.

  • Built from birch plywood and solid oak or walnut veneer, they’re grounded and honest in their construction.

  • Upholstered with timeless fabrics, they add warmth and depth without shouting for attention.

  • With a pull-out mechanism that’s simple, not showy, the sofa transforms only when it’s needed - just like good design should.

In Clayton’s studio, surrounded by Danish linoleum, Bauhaus classics, a Magnus Olesen table, and a sound system tuned to perfection, our sofa sits naturally in the mix.

The Quiet Tension Between Minimalism and Playfulness

Clayton described his space as a balance: a little minimalism, a little nostalgia, a little playfulness. That “quiet tension” is exactly the design space we occupy at SLOWE.

Our pieces are intentionally modernist in form, stripped back, modular, timeless - but they leave room for personal taste, colour, and story. The sofa isn’t the loudest voice in the room; it’s the piece that makes the whole room work together.

Why It Works

Clayton needed a piece that could:

  • Ground the studio with comfort and warmth

  • Adapt to different uses — content backdrop, seating, occasional guest bed

  • Fit seamlessly alongside vintage finds and design icons

The Bigger Picture

Clayton called his new Amsterdam studio the “HQ” for everything he’s building. For us, it’s a reminder that our furniture isn’t just about design, it’s about the people who use it. Writers, creators, designers, and anyone carving their own lane need products that work as hard as they do -  while keeping their environment warm, calm, and beautiful.

Welcome to the new HQ, Clayton. We can’t wait to see what you create from that sofa.

We’re honoured that SLOWE is part of that journey.
